Shirley was a kind woman who often volunteered to foster rescued dogs. When Dogwood Animal Rescue Project contacted her about Levi, a malnourished Frenchie puppy, she couldn’t resist helping.
When Shirley first met Levi, she was shocked to see his condition. Levi was smaller than an eight-week-old kitten and was very frail and thin.
Shirley was saddened by the thought that Levi needed hospice care instead of foster care. Luckily, after a visit from the vet, the doctor reassured Shirley that Levi had a high chance for a full recovery.
Shirley was excited to bring Levi home and start the weight-gaining process. Although her excitement died down when she realized that Shelby, her 125-pound Great Dane, might not like a new company.
As Shelby was introduced to Levi, Shirley was shocked to see how the two dogs got along quickly. It was evident that Levi immediately felt safe and comfortable with his foster sister since he never left her side.
Levi needed round-the-clock care and a lot of pampering and attention. Despite his condition, he played and acted like a normal puppy.
Journey to forever home
After a few weeks, Shirley noticed Levi’s development. He had gained weight and grew the appropriate size for his age.
Thanks to Shelby, Levi grew more confident. Shelby also taught Levi valuable social skills such as how to play and get along with other dogs.
Shirley knew that she would have no trouble finding the perfect home for Levi since he was very affectionate and lovable. Although the thought saddened her, she knew Levi deserved a good life.
As the next few weeks passed, Dawn, a dog-loving woman, stumbled upon Levi’s story on the internet. She fell in love with Levi through pictures and videos so she set up an appointment to meet him.
Luckily, Dawn and Levi immediately formed a bond. Dawn applied to adopt Levi and promised to give him the life he deserved. Soon after, Levi got to use the social skills Shelby taught him on his two new Pitbull brothers.
