Akitas are known across the world for their elegance, beauty and dignity, people like their forward-pointing ears and high curled tail. Some people appreciate their superiority aura that says: I am better than the rest and I am also independent.

People started to love this breed even more after the story of  Hachiko, the loyal akita who daily waited for his owner in a train station for nine years after his tragic death.

Akitas origins are from a region of Japan called Akita, in this place were médium-sized Akita mataji dogs. These dogs were used for hunting bears and other wild animals.

Japanese Akita is considered to be the true Akita in comparison of the American breed of the Akita, but really came into its own after world war II.

Temperamental and intelligent hunters

They were bred initially to hunt bears, boars and stags. These dogs have an elevated guarding instinct. People think that they are just playful and cute dogs, but they can also be hunters and protective dogs. For this reason you really don’t want to mess with these dogs.

Akitas are very intelligent and they actually think so far outside the box, owners shouldn’t underestimate their skills. Novice and experienced owners may be need a high intellectual capacity to keep it up the process of training and breeding.

Like a lot of primitive breeds, they’ll know exactly what are you asking to them, they also have a very elevated prey drive that sort of contributes to the level of reactivity

If a dog comes running faster to them, they will react instantly as if you were running in the park and a stranger approaches to fast to you, obviously that will freak you out. Is not different from them.

Brave and courageous dogs

Akitas can be brave dogs with convictions of hunting, if they are bred well they can track bears and help hunters. The success of this will depend on the owner or breeder and the Akita is raised.

They are also curious dogs that like to explore and find new things. With a nice breeding they will be alert to any signal of possible encountering with a wild animal, a bear, a boar or a stag.

This dog breed can be a hunter or pet. Some Akitas doesn’t like kids because of their temperament, but with some training you can make them familiarize with the family members but this depends  on the dog’s personality and product of its surroundings. Some Akitas can also be playful and good pets.

Both breed version are ok, each one has their particularities like, size, hair color, factions of their faces and in some cases the behavior. It is not too much difference between breeds.

The conduct and behavior of the Akita can change by the cultural environment where it grows and interact everyday, Japanese culture is not the same as the American and so on.
