Draper was a four-day-old puppy whose left paw was missing. His owners gave him up at a vet clinic to be euthanized. Fortunately, a lovely lady came to his rescue.
Paw in need
When Melanie, a volunteer at Road Dogs & Rescue, an animal shelter, heard of the news of a puppy that was already on the kill list, she instantly knew she had to help. Melanie drove to the vet clinic and offered to foster Draper as soon as she saw the pup’s cute little face.
Melanie had never experienced fostering a puppy as young as Draper before. She wasn’t sure how his paw would progress or if they needed to amputate the whole limb. Either way, Melanie was there to support Draper through the whole process.
Draper received veterinary care every day thanks to his foster mom. He was on daily treatment for his left limb and received round-the-clock care.
Eventually, after a few weeks of treatment, Draper’s limb fully healed and it didn’t need to be amputated. Draper would use his left arm comfortably but Melanie felt that a prosthetic would be best.
Journey to forever home
Melanie had pet cats that Draper wasn’t fond of in the beginning. But as time passed, Draper learned to love playing with the cats.
Melanie loved Draper a lot but also wanted to give him a chance to live a good and happy life so when a nice woman named Cheryl, applied to adopt him, she instantly agreed. Melanie took Draper to the airport and bid him an emotional goodbye.
As soon as Cheryl saw Draper, she instantly fell in love with him. Cheryl took Draper home and introduced him to her two other dogs. Draper seamlessly fit in with Cheryl’s family. He loved his new life, new mom, and two new brothers.
