A few years ago, a loving mother of one dog decided to open her home to another furry friend that needs a family. She was searching for a sibling for her dog, Mack, and chanced upon meeting Bella in a fantastic animal rescue center that finds homes for strays and unwanted dogs.
Melissa Maher adopted Bella from Project Home Animal Rescue in 2017. She immediately knew that Bella was going to have a difficult time adjusting to her new home. She also feels that Bella would act nervous and timid around them.
And she was right; Bella’s first months in their home were not easy. She would always get scared of noises, crawl through doorways, and refuse to play with toys. But with the help of her big brother, Mack, she slowly changed.
Melissa tells The Dodo that her little struggles, such as hiding food because she thinks she would not get any more or flinch when humans come near her, became less and less whenever she was together with Mack. It was commendable how much she improved!
Being a loving mom, Melissa wanted to help Bella finally come out of her shell. And so she had her eye on a project that would make Bella feel safe around their home. She was going to give Bella’s crate a makeover.
Melissa first took note of what decorations to add, so that Bella would not damage or chew them off. When she was set with a decorating plan, she was off to turn Bella’s simple crate into a haven. And that is precisely what she did.
Bella’s crate looks like the fanciest, most comfortable space for any dog, and Melissa was thrilled that Bella loved it. Maher told The Dodo that when Bella was allowed to go back in, she immediately laid right down.
All Bella wanted was a home and a family, and Melissa gave her so much more. It’s incredible how dedicated mothers can be for their furry children.
