There are currently over 130 million stray dogs living in China. This staggering stray dog population in China is mainly due to the rapidly growing urban areas all over the country where people started living in high-rises, which had no room for pets. Many of these strays were abandoned by their owners and they’re constantly in danger of becoming victims of abuse or by the state-sponsored extermination campaign.
Many of these strays also risk getting captured by people who use them for dog meat and many succumb to hunger and disease. It’s tough being a stray in China since there’s not a lot of animal rescue organizations that can help these poor animals live better lives and find their forever homes.
One particular stray dog in China caught the attention of compassionate people from all over the world. A dog named Shi Bao was abandoned by her owners who decided to move out of the neighborhood. Shi Bao was dumped and she also went unnoticed for years. Shi Bao tried to survive by scavenging food in the nearby railroad.
Unfortunately for Shi Bao, she was hit by a train while looking for food. The accident resulted in Shi Bao losing both her back legs and in most cases, she would have surely died. However, Shi Bao survived and she even gave birth to a litter of puppies. It was amazing how Shi Bao was able to survive even after experiencing such horrific injuries.
Shi Bao learned to balance herself using her front legs and she takes such good care of her puppies. Despite her injuries, Shi Bao works really hard to take care of her puppies. Eventually, people started to notice Shi Bao and learned about her story. Shi Bao and her puppies were eventually rescued by an animal rescue organization called Animals Asia.
Unfortunately, a couple of Shi Bao’s puppies died due to disease. The surviving puppies were adopted by loving families and Shi Bao was also adopted by the founder of Animals Asia where she’s finally going to live a life that she deserves. Shi Bao’s story is inspirational and it describes the suffering that stray dogs go through in China. Here’s a video telling Shi Bao’s story and how she was finally adopted and given a second chance to be happy.
